1. What are the entry requirements for international students?
We welcome ambitious students from around the world. Entry to Westbourne School is based on academic performance and potential. Applicants are asked to submit their last two years of school reports and a passport copy via our Apply At Page. Qualified candidates are then invited to sit online entrance tests in Aptitude, Maths and English, followed by a personal interview with our Principal, Mrs Rees.
2. What age can international students start at Westbourne School?
We welcome international boarding students from 12 years. Younger students may join as day students when accompanied by a parent. Our inclusive global community ensures every student, from Prep to Sixth Form, is supported to achieve academic excellence and feel at home from day one.
3. Can Westbourne School sponsor student visas for international students?
Yes. Westbourne School is a licensed Child Student visa sponsor. We support boarding students aged 12 and above, as well as day students under 12 who live with a parent or guardian in the UK. Westbourne School can sponsor eligible students under 12 years with one accompanying parent.
4. How do I apply to a UK boarding school from abroad.
The full application process can be completed entirely online, via Zoom or through one of our trusted agents in your home country. Families are warmly encouraged to visit the school in advance of applying. Westbourne School is open for visits year round, and our Admissions Team is happy to arrange personalised tours and interviews.

6. When should I apply to a UK boarding school?
Places are highly competitive, so early application is essential. We recommend applying at least six months in advance for September entry to secure your place and preferred boarding option. We offer a rolling application process with spaces filled on a first come, first served basis.
7. What are the UK boarding options?
At Westbourne, we offer full boarding on our Penarth campus, combining 24/7 pastoral care, guardianship and the flexibility for boarders to stay with us during half term breaks. For those who prefer a family placement, HomeStay offers an excellent alternative with a welcoming local host family.
8. Which airports do you collect international students from?
We provide airport transfers for boarding students to and from Cardiff, Bristol, and London Heathrow, at the start and end of each school term. Our dedicated pastoral team ensures a smooth and safe journey for every student arriving or departing from the UK.
9. What qualifications will I study?
At Westbourne, students can choose from the IB Diploma or A Levels, both offering world-class preparation for entry to leading global universities. 11. Do I need to take an IETS test, or English Language test?
Westbourne does not require an IELTS test, however you will sit an English paper as part of your application assessments. This ensures we can provide the right level of support for every student to thrive in our academically rigorous, English medium environment.
