Reflections on a stand-out year
As the year draws to a close, we pause to reflect on what brilliance looked like at Westbourne School in 2025. In education, brilliance is rarely defined by a single moment alone. It is built consistently, day by day – in classrooms, the boarding house, performances, conversations, and in the confidence young people develop as they prepare for life beyond school.
This year has been one of growth, achievement and connection – reinforcing our status as a leading independent school in the UK and a pioneer in the global education space.
Academic excellence at our heart
At the core of Westbourne’s identity is academic excellence, and in 2025 this shone brightly. Our examination results were the strongest seen in two decades, reflecting a culture where curiosity, ambition and high expectations are consistently matched with exceptional teaching, innovation and personalised support.
This commitment was recognised nationally when Westbourne was named Sunday Times Independent School of the Year in Wales 2026, reflecting not only academic outcomes, but the breadth of provision across the school – from cutting-edge innovation in learning to outstanding pastoral support.
We were equally proud to be named Independent School of the Year for Education Technology, celebrating initiatives such as our KnowVa Coach AI tutor and groundbreaking Global Classroom, connecting students and staff globally and enabling real-time collaboration and project work.
And, as if this wasn’t enough, our third national award of the year came when we were ranked #1 Boarding School for Results 2025.
