Inspiring tomorrow’s global leaders
Penarth Performance is a team of passionate Westbourne students working to design, build and race a fully functional electric car for the upcoming GreenPower F24+ competition in March 2025.
Here, the team shares the latest progress…
Over the past few months, our IB1 and IB2 students have been hard at work modelling and planning the redesign of the car. The building is yet to come, but already we can see a great deal of progress in engineering since September.
Meanwhile, the Building team (Jimgel, Shane, Mikołai, and Kyle P) has started deconstructing the shell of the car as well as examining which components could be reused, including the chassis, kindly donated by Truro School, braking, steering systems and the roll bar. Additionally, the car’s appearance will also receive attention to ensure it’s in pristine condition long before race day.
The Engineering team (Alicia, Tobias, and Sofia) has finalised a simplified CAD model of the car during half-term break and will soon conduct aerodynamic tests on the shell created in CAD. They have also started planning to rewire the electrical system to include all necessary components, such as telemetry. In addition, they have removed all electrical circuit components to identify which ones might be reused.
Last but not least, the Drivers have been selected: Sofia, Varvara, Mikołai, and Kyle C. Currently, the Management group is preparing the next stage, further fundraising and scrutineering to ensure compliance with race regulations.
Over the coming weeks, the team will begin assembling the new shell, working on the chassis and continuing aerodynamic tests. Fundraising events such as a bake sale on the 21st of November are also being planned.
