Having shot straight to the upper echelons of Sydney’s best academic schools with its inaugural graduating class in 2022, this year Westbourne College Sydney has ranked 1st in Australia for the highest percentage of students scoring a perfect 45 Points in the IB Diploma, for the % of students achieving 40+ Points, and on our median score of 39 Points.
Our success is not only about those who excelled the most; our success is broader:
Student Sonia, who received a maximum 45 out of 45 Points, hopes to pursue a career in medicine. “I was a bit numb,” she said. “It felt not real but I was really happy.”
Preethika scored an exceptional 44 out of 45. “It was pretty hard, I learnt a lot about myself,” she said.
Outstanding results have secured student Samuel (pictured below) a place to study at the University of Oxford in September. Attributing this success to his Westbourne IB experience, he said the best part of the IB was the research essay, in which he wrote about BHP and Rio Tinto, as well as Mandarin.
"It feels incredible to receive an offer from Oxford. Over the course of the application process my self-confidence went up and down dramatically about my chances, but now I am here I am really happy and super excited for the opportunities ahead. Westbourne’s first major contribution has to be the connections they afforded me to the right people both internal and external to the school who gave me such great support which was invaluable to my application. The other was the opportunity to participate in Summer@INSEAD 2022, which was an awesome experience that formed the backbone of my personal statement demonstrating my passion for learning the subjects." Since launching in January 2021, Westbourne College Sydney has successfully implemented a unique and ground-breaking STEM-focused, IB-only, co-ed model, developed in the UK since 2007 and which has seen it at the top of the UK league tables since 2015. This leading model has since also been rolled out in Singapore, with further global colleges planned for the coming year.
Students from our global schools access a pioneering global classroom, affording them access to the very best global academic and personal development opportunities. Sharing knowledge and ideas via real-time virtual workshops and seminars, their study is led by subject specialists from different countries.
Combining strong, practical university links with real-world international experience, including access to world-leading business school INSEAD, group projects with UK, Sydney and Singapore peers, and global exchange trips, Westbourne is uniquely placed to deliver its mission: to best prepare its students for leadership roles in STEM and business careers on the global stage.
“My congratulations go to the whole Westbourne community for achieving such an excellent set of results. Our students’ success is both a ringing endorsement of their consistent efforts, and testimony to the relentless support of the teachers and staff and Westbourne’s unique model of academic excellence in a global context. To achieve these results with our first two graduating classes proves the value and success of our world-leading future focused model.” Mark Peters, Chairman, Westbourne International
