Incredible sporting talent on show as Westbourne wins all matches in independent schools football tournament.

Westbourne was delighted to take part in – and win! – Cardiff Montessori’s inaugural football tournament for local schools at the Cardiff University Sports Campus. The event showcased a great spirit of competition and some excellent football from all participating teams.
A huge well done to our talented footballers in Years 8 and 9, whose exceptional drive and performance has really put Westbourne football on the map.
Match 1: Westbourne vs Cardiff Montessori
The opening fixture saw Westbourne lock horns with a determined Cardiff Montessori side in a match that crackled with anticipation. Westbourne scored in the 15th minute, courtesy of a well-taken strike by Peter. However, Cardiff Montessori proved to be no pushovers, demonstrating resilience and skill in the midfield.
The second half ignited with further action. In the 25th minute, Ege extended Westbourne’s lead, seemingly putting them in a comfortable position. Yet, just two minutes later, Cardiff Montessori clawed their way back into the contest, sending a palpable wave of tension through the Westbourne faithful. The momentum remained delicately balanced until the 29th minute, when Peter etched his name further into the narrative. Collecting the ball near the halfway line, he embarked on a breathtaking run down the wing, leaving defenders trailing in his wake before unleashing a low, unstoppable shot that nestled into the keeper’s left corner. Amidst the ebb and flow of the game, Westbourne’s custodian, Martus, stood as an impenetrable wall, his agility and reflexes denying Cardiff Montessori on no fewer than seven occasions, preserving Westbourne’s slender advantage.
The final whistle blew, signaling a hard-fought 3-1 victory for Westbourne in a match that could have swung either way, a testament to the high caliber of football on display, particularly in the midfield battleground.

Match 2: Westbourne vs Steiner
The second encounter saw Westbourne facing the Steiner School, and the home side demonstrated a ruthless efficiency that left their opponents with little hope. Mykhylo set the tone early, finding the back of the net in the 7th minute. Just three minutes later, Westbourne showcased their tactical acumen with a goal straight from the training ground. A perfectly executed free-kick set play culminated in Peter adding his second of the day.
The second half saw Westbourne continue their relentless assault. In the 20th minute, Nadir conjured a moment of individual brilliance, weaving past a series of defenders before unleashing a thunderous low drive into the bottom corner. Five minutes later, Nadir turned provider, delivering a sublime through ball to the onrushing Peter, who calmly slotted home his fourth of the tournament. The onslaught continued, and in the 27th minute, Peter completed his hat-trick, further cementing Westbourne’s dominance. This match was a masterclass in attacking football, with Westbourne stringing together intricate passing moves and displaying superior fitness, ultimately overwhelming Steiner.

Match 3: Westbourne vs Kings Monkton
The final match pitted Westbourne against a determined Kings Monkton side, with the tournament title hanging in the balance. The tension was palpable as both teams sought to seize the initiative. In the 14th minute, Nadir’s nimble footwork and intelligent combination play with Fin resulted in the opening goal for Westbourne, easing some of the pressure. However, this competitive and physical game became a little bit feisty at times, requiring strong character from both sides.
It was the prolific Peter who ultimately extinguished any hopes of a Kings Monkton comeback. In the 22nd minute, he struck not once, but twice in quick succession, showcasing his predatory instincts in front of goal and securing a decisive lead for Westbourne. The Westbourne defense, marshaled expertly by Bishan, stood firm, denying Kings Monkton any clear opportunities to breach their lines. The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes as Westbourne clinched a well-deserved victory and the tournament championship.
