Where ambition meets challenge

Choosing the right school is about more than results. It’s about finding a place where your child will be known, challenged, and inspired to think independently.

As a leading independent school in Cardiff, we are proud to develop Westbourne Thinkers: young people who are curious, confident, and prepared for life far beyond the classroom.

Rooted in the IB Learner Profile, and further enhanced by our unique curriculum and sector-leading innovation, this pioneering educational approach runs through every stage of the school, from Nursery to our IB and A Level Sixth Form.

Ahead of our Open Day on 23rd January – an opportunity for parents and families to see our approach in action – we take a look at what defines a Westbourne Thinker – and how we shape exceptional learners at every age.

The Foundations of Thinking: Nursery & Early Years

A Westbourne Thinker’s journey begins in our Nursery from age 2, where learning is purposeful, playful and deeply nurturing.

Led by the Pearson Early Years Team of the Year, at this important stage we focus on developing children who are:

  • Inquirers, naturally curious about the world around them

  • Communicators, confident in expressing ideas and emotions

  • Caring, showing kindness, empathy and respect for others

At Westbourne, we place great value on helping children feel secure, confident and excited about learning. Early independence, resilience and self-belief are carefully nurtured, laying strong foundations for future success.

Our youngest learners are supported one-to-one to discover what excites them, building confidence ahead of transitioning to our warm, welcoming Prep School for Reception.
